Gregory Breen was born May 5, 1957, the eldest of 5 children of the late
Dr. & Mrs. Francis & Miriam
Breen. He grew up in Syosset and
Muttontown where his family was active members in St. Edward the Confessor
parish. Fr. Greg attended the parish
elementary school and then St. Pius X Prep Seminary in Uniondale. Upon graduation he entered Columbia
University and graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor’s degree in French. He continued his education at NYU’s graduate
school of business and Cornell. He
attended the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington and was
ordained to the priesthood by Bishop William Murphy on June 12th
2004. After studying in Paris France, Fr. Greg
vacationed with his mom and dad in France and Italy. He suffered an extremely serious injury in a
pool accident in Italy leaving him physically challenged and unable to use his
left arm and leg. But like the “Ever
Ready” battery he just keeps going and going and going. He worked for Personnel
office at Philip Morris Corporation. He Served
as budget coordinator for the Manhattan division of Con Edison, an ombudsman of
the NYC Parking Violations Bureau and then as Personnel Director for the NYC
Sheriff’s office from 1995-1999. Few persons
are aware of his hobby. He is an ardent
movie fan and quite adept at making sure he sees almost all new film
releases. His approach to films is to
view them in the context of seeking the Christian and moral aspects of the
film’s story.
